Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but I'm already planning Ben's 1st Birthday party. Actually, I started compiling a list of ideas when he was just 3 months old! The "Blog World" has so many creative ideas! Ever heard of a Cake Pop? I hadn't until I somehow came across this website... Bakerella! She makes these adorable little Cake Pops, that I think would be so neat to have at Ben's Birthday Party. I decided to try them out tonight for our "Grandparents Day" dinner to see just how time consuming they were...
I wrapped a Styrofoam block in craft paper, & decorated it with some orange ribbon & a leaf sticker... so simple!!
My sister Kaitlin took this picture.... I wish I had her photography skills!
Good News:
The ingredients are simple & pretty cheap. Here's what I used today (I bought everything at Walmart): Wilton Lollipop Sticks, 1 box of chocolate cake mix, 1 can of cream cheese frosting, Vanilla Almond Bark (found in the baking aisle), & sprinkles. Here's an overview & video of how to make them: recipe. *I just made round ones.
Not-So-Good News: A little messy & a bit time consuming. Just by looking at these things, I knew some patience would be involved.
The Verdict: Part of me was secretly hoping that my family would not like them or just think they were "ok"... then I probably wouldn't make them for Ben's party (this breastfeeding, homemade baby food making, working Mom is tired!). But then my sister Kaitlin took a bite of hers & said, "Oh, these are good!" Everyone else agreed!! So it looks like some blue & green Cake Pops with Birthday sprinkles are in my future. My Mom & sisters better keep their schedules open the week of his party... I'm gonna need help! HA!
